DOCSIS 4.0 FDx
DOCSIS 4.0 technology enables next generation broadband services using an existing broadband cable network, the standard encompasses full duplex DOCSIS (FDx) technology, which delivers symmetrical multi-gigabit speed data.
- Upgrade to DOCSIS 4.0 now
- Symmetrical up- and downstream with full duplex DOCSIS
- Remote PHY and MAC-PHY are key elements
- Direction neutral, diplex filter free amplifiers
In a standard CATV network up- and downstream signals are separated by two different spectrum bands, the lower frequency spectrum for upstream and the higher frequency spectrum for downstream. The separation in amplifiers between the up- and downstream signals is performed by diplex filters.
FDx Is a new approach which enables symmetrical up- and downstream bandwidth. Video conferences, cloud storage and IoT future applications will benefit from the higher upstream bandwidth and lower latency of FDx. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown that it is essential to have sufficient upstream performance for usage such as video conferencing and cloud storage. FDx can support this using the 108 – 684 MHz spectrum band for both up- and downstream, hugely increasing the data capacity in the broadband cable network. Although FDx is part of the DOCSIS 4.0 standard and CableLabs product approval is not expected until early 2022, it is possible to start getting your network ready now.
To enable FDx DOCSIS in the future, it is important to invest in a fiber-deep network. R-PHY and MAC-PHY are key elements for FDx and Technetix has several options available to upgrade a broadband cable network. It is also possible to deploy a R-PHY and MAC-PHY network within an existing DBx amplifier network.
